The Pharmaceutical companies in Pennsylvania employ approximately 7,200 people across businesses and also generate $3 billion in wages across the state, with the average wage standing at $52,250 when implied remuneration.

In terms of pharmaceutical employment, Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation. From 1986 to 1996, the pharmaceutical industry grew by 25% (about 52,000 jobs) nationally, while Pennsylvania’s increased by 36% (about 7,200 jobs).

The majority of the state’s pharmaceutical companies, roughly 80%, are concentrated in and around Philadelphia.
