In 2019, drug sales in Spanish pharmaceutical companies totaled € 10,280 million. Drugs with an effect on the nervous system were the best-selling therapy group, followed by drugs for the digestive tract and metabolism as well as for the cardiovascular system.

The hospital market also grew and reached 11,440 million euros in 2019, with antineoplastic and autoimmune biologics being the drugs most in demand in the hospital sector.

In Spain, the pharmaceutical sector spends more than any other sector on research and development. In 2019, the pharmaceutical RandD amounted to 1,210 million euros, the highest amount.
