In addition, Scripps Research Institute owns a nonprofit biomedical research center in Jupiter called Scripps Florida.

Each year, the state’s colleges invest more than $1 billion in life science programs. The state also receives significant NIH funding—$473 million in 2014, nearly as much as Minnesota, which is home to the famed Mayo Clinic, which, incidentally, also has a site in Florida—in Jacksonville.

Florida’s natural beauty may have encouraged businesses to relocate there, but the state has worked hard to keep them there.
