Sunderland Eye Infirmary provides ophthalmology care and treatment to residents of Tyne and Wear and Durham through surgical, accident, and emergency (A&E), and outpatient services.

The hospital evolved from the Sunderland Union Workhouse Infirmary, which opened in 1855 on a site south of Hylton Road.
