Learn about Medical Tourism in Turkey

chibueze uchegbu | March 21st, 2023

Medical tourism, also known as health tourism or medical travel, is international travel for medical treatment.

Many patients choose medical tourism because the procedures they require can be performed at a lower cost and without the delay and inconvenience of being placed on a waiting list in other countries.

Furthermore, some patients travel to specific locations to receive procedures that are not available in their home country.

High healthcare costs, long wait times for certain procedures, the ease and affordability of international travel, and advancements in technology and standards of care in many countries have all contributed to the growing popularity of medical travel.

Avoiding long waits is the primary reason for medical tourism in the United Kingdom, whereas cheaper prices abroad are the primary reason in the United States.

pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam

Best 40 Pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam

chibueze uchegbu | March 20th, 2023

Pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam are among the fastest-growing industries in Asia and the world at large.

Demand for high-quality medicines has been catalyzed by high economic growth, rising per capita income, and an aging population.

While the Vietnamese government encourages the domestic pharmaceutical industry, its options are limited to generics, further constrained by Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organization (joined in 2007), recognition and enforcement of international patent law, and a lack of research and innovation capacity.

With the global economic disruptions caused by COVID19 and ongoing trade uncertainties with China, emerging economies such as Vietnam offer a viable option to diversify and hedge operations while providing opportunities for long-term sustainable growth for foreign multinational corporations (MNCs).

Vietnam is a fast-growing economy in Asia with a very large population. Although the Vietnamese population is still expanding (about 1.1% on average over the period 2000-2015), the Vietnamese population is expected to enter the aging phase at a very high rate.

The rapid expansion of the urban middle class and the proportion of older people have dramatically increased the demand for health goods, especially pharmaceuticals.

Since the early 1990s, the government has addressed the needs of the growing demand for healthcare. Formulation of a set of measures to promote the development of the pharmaceutical industry.

However, the implementation of this policy does not appear to have been entirely efficient as the country still has to import up to 90% of its pharmaceutical consumption.

This document aims to examine the development of the pharmaceutical industry in the years 1990-to 2015 and to identify several weaknesses in government support for the industry.

Future developments on how the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry could increase its stake in the industry will also be discussed.

Vietnam’s Pharmaceutical market

Despite the rapid growth, Vietnam’s manufacturing capacity can only meet 53% of domestic pharmaceutical demand.

In 2018, Vietnam spent nearly $2.8 billion on importing medicines. In 2019, this expense increased by 10%. Vietnam is also heavily dependent on imported pharmaceutical materials, mainly from China with more than 60% of the demand.

According to the Vietnam Medicines Administration, as of May 2019, there were about 180 pharmaceutical manufacturing companies and 224 domestic manufacturing sites in Vietnam that adhered to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

National companies mainly produce simple dosage forms, functional foods, and generics (drugs whose exclusive protection has expired).

Market research firm IBM said the size of Vietnam’s pharmaceutical industry could reach $7.7 billion in 2021 and $16.1 billion in 2026. Market research firm IMS Health also predicts that per capita spending on medicines in Vietnam will rise to US$50 per person in 2020.

In addition, many large pharmaceutical manufacturing companies such as Hau Giang Pharmaceutical, Bidiphar, Imexpharm, and Pymepharco have invested in factory modernization, which they promise to make progress in the development of new national pharmaceutical products and improve competitiveness against imported products.

The General Statistical Office predicts that the number of Vietnamese aged 65 and over will reach 7.4 million in 2020, accounting for nearly 7.9% of the country’s total population and  18.1% in 2049.

According to a report by the Vietnam Social Insurance Agency,  only 60% of Vietnam’s population had health insurance in 2010, while this figure was 90% in 2019.

Another driving force for the pharmaceutical industry is rapid urbanization. The urbanized population of Vietnam will reach 36.2 million by the end of 2020, up from 33.6% in 2015 to 36.8%.

Behavioral therapy for a child

Behavioral therapy for a child

chibueze uchegbu | March 17th, 2023

Behavioral therapy for a child becomes necessary when the child begins to show questionable behaviors that start becoming a lifestyle.

For example, children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other related issues require behavioral therapy after their diagnosis.

This therapy helps the child overcome whatever triggers the behavior and teaches them how to unlearn and handle themselves.

Moreover, behavioral therapy largely requires the inclusion of parents or caregivers. It helps them understand the state of their children’s minds and how to strategically veer them away from such questionable behaviors. As we proceed, we must understand behavioral therapy and how it can help a child.

What is behavioral therapy?

Behavioral therapy is a technique used by professionals to help curb disorderly behavior in children. It focuses on teaching children new methods and behaviors and changing their thoughts and feelings about certain situations.

More so, behavioral therapy uses techniques such as positive reinforcement and modeling to help people learn how to cope with stressful or difficult situations. These techniques may differ according to diagnosis; however, they all have the same goal to improve the behavioral aspect of the child.

Parents are also taught how to handle their child’s behavior in a new and different way. For example, a child diagnosed with anger issues may get away with anything because parents naturally tend to overlook and take the easiest available option to pacify the young child before the tantrum escalates. However, during behavioral therapy, parents learn more efficient and effective ways to handle a situation at home.

They will understand that their perceived easiest route out of their child’s anger issue may not be the best for them and the child. They may need to offer rewards when the child acts calmly in the face of a situation and firmly stand by it.

What are the types of behavioral therapies?

People of different age grades can require behavioral therapy, including children under five. Behavioral therapy is a broad field and comes in various types which deal with different mental issues. For clarity, we have a list of some of the therapies:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is another therapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and modify dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors that lead to distress.

The professionals use these techniques to target the pattern of the patient’s thoughts and their following actions. The therapy helps to correct the flow of thoughts and how to act in situations that would have resulted in distress.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

This type of therapy was primarily established to treat patients with borderline personality disorder, and this disorder paves the way for other dangerous mental sicknesses, including intensive suicidal thoughts.

So, DBT focuses on helping these individuals manage their emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthy coping skills.

Related: The Different Types Of Therapy For Mental Illness

Systematic Desensitization

This type of therapy helps individuals with phobias or anxieties by gradually exposing them to feared objects or situations.

This type of therapy helps individuals calmly confront their fears and anxieties. Most times, patients take their time to thoroughly do away with fear and anxiety, but the professionals help them to conquer their fears through techniques like the breathing technique.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

This type of therapy encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to taking action that is consistent with their values. One of the techniques helpful in this kind of therapy is the mindfulness-awareness method.

Behavioral therapy for a child

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)

This therapy focuses on helping individuals identify and modify irrational beliefs that lead to distress.

Children behavioral therapy

When it comes to kids, the techniques become more doused and accommodating. This includes turning a cognitive behavioral therapy session into a supervised play period.

Through these, the therapists work directly with the children and proffer a lasting solution like a coping mechanism.

When a child is involved, everything about this process becomes very sensitive and must be handled carefully. So, aside from the therapies mentioned above, a child-friendly procedure will include the following:

Family therapy

Here, the child is not hand-picked for the therapy sessions. The whole family, which primarily includes the parents, must be involved.

Family therapy can collectively understand the child involved and learn how to proceed from the situation. More so, the therapist learns about the entire family and professionally decides how they can be individually and collectively helpful to the child.

Play therapy

Play therapy is a psychological therapy that involves playing and creative activities as a way for children to express their thoughts and feelings. It is based on the belief that children can express themselves more freely through play than verbal communication.

During play therapy, the therapist uses the opportunity to monitor the child and analyze their mental state and problem.

This method is highly effective as it can help children with various issues, such as difficulty in social situations, difficulty expressing emotions, and difficulty forming relationships.

Play therapy is also used to address behavior problems and to help children work through trauma.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment for younger children who show emotional and behavioral disorders. This therapy emphasizes improving the quality of the parent-child relationship and changing parent-child interaction patterns.

PCIT uniquely combines play therapy and parent training to help parents learn more positive, effective ways to interact with their child to promote positive behavior, all under the watchful eyes and guidance of the therapist, who may be directing things from a separate room.

Hence, this therapy’s final result helps children improve their behavior and emotion regulation and build attachment with their parents.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) has also been a breakthrough for adopted children and their new parents or parents who have been away for a very long time to bond.

Why is behavioral therapy for a child necessary?

Diagnoses are scary events in life; when they occur, people involved begin to seek the proper medications immediately.

So is the situation with parents of children diagnosed with mental issues. However, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is better to begin behavioral therapy for children presenting with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) first. Especially children from two to seven years old, and maybe follow up with medications if necessary.

Parents who offer medications first may only successfully suppress the symptoms without addressing the root or helping the child know how to behave when faced with triggers. Therefore, causing more harm than good to the child.

Benefits of behavioral therapy for a child

Behavioral therapy for a child is necessary because it can help children learn to manage their emotions, build confidence, improve communication skills, and develop better problem-solving abilities.

Furthermore, it can help children develop healthy coping strategies to deal with difficult situations, improve relationships with peers and adults, and understand the consequences of their actions.

Conclusion on behavioral therapy for a child

Behavioral therapy may require many sessions and stretched patience, depending on the severity of the child’s condition.

Be as it may, child behavioral therapy always comes through for mostly all kids and their families needing it.

5 Ways To Keep Your Teeth Healthy

chibueze uchegbu | March 16th, 2023

Keeping your teeth healthy is an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene. Poor dental health can lead to a host of issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath, and even tooth loss.

In this article, we will discuss five ways to keep your teeth healthy.

See a Dentist Regularly

Seeing a dentist regularly is crucial for maintaining good oral health. A dentist can identify and treat any dental issues before they become more severe. Regular dental checkups can help prevent cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. In Washington State, there is a reliable and experienced dentist in Kenmore who can provide you with quality dental care.

During your dental appointment, the dentist will examine your teeth and gums for any signs of decay or infection. They may also perform a dental cleaning to remove any plaque or tartar buildup. Regular dental checkups should be scheduled every six months to ensure optimal oral health.

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Brushing your teeth twice a day is an essential part of good dental hygiene. Brushing helps remove plaque and bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush your teeth. Brush for at least two minutes, making sure to reach all areas of your mouth.

Floss Daily

Flossing is often neglected but is just as important as brushing your teeth. Flossing helps remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth and under your gum line, areas where your toothbrush can’t reach.

Flossing also helps prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Use a flossing tool or dental floss to floss once a day.

Avoid Sugary and Acidic Foods and Drinks

Sugary and acidic foods and drinks can be harmful to your teeth. These foods and drinks can cause tooth decay and erosion of your enamel, leading to tooth sensitivity and discoloration.

Try to limit your intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks. If you do consume them, rinse your mouth with water afterward and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.

Use a Mouthwash

Using a mouthwash can help freshen your breath and kill bacteria in your mouth. Mouthwash can also help prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Use an alcohol-free mouthwash twice a day, or as directed by your dentist.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, maintaining good oral health requires a combination of regular dental checkups, brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing daily, avoiding sugary and acidic foods and drinks, and using mouthwash.

By following these tips, you can keep your teeth healthy and beautiful for a lifetime.

How to Keep Kids’ Teeth Healthy?

chibueze uchegbu | March 16th, 2023

As a parent, one of your responsibilities is to ensure your child’s teeth stay healthy. Good oral hygiene habits developed in childhood can last a lifetime, preventing dental problems that can be both painful and expensive.

Here are some tips on how to keep your child’s teeth healthy.

Encourage Good Oral Hygiene Habits

Start encouraging good oral hygiene habits as soon as your child’s first tooth appears. Gently clean the tooth with a soft, wet cloth or brush it with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a small amount of fluoride toothpaste.

As your child grows, teach them to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes and floss once a day. Make brushing and flossing a fun activity by doing it together.

Choose Healthy Foods and Drinks

Limit sugary foods and drinks, such as candy, soda, and juice, which can cause tooth decay. Instead, choose healthy foods and drinks such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and water. Eating a balanced diet is not only essential for your child’s overall health but also their oral health.

Visit a Pediatric Dentist

Regular dental check-ups are essential for your child’s oral health. A pediatric dentist in Auburn, WA specializes in treating children and can help identify dental problems early on.

Pediatric dentists can also provide preventive care, such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants, which can protect your child’s teeth from decay. It’s recommended to visit a pediatric dentist every six months or as recommended by the dentist.

Consider Dental Insurance

Dental treatment can be expensive, and dental insurance can help offset the cost. Many dental insurance plans cover preventive care, such as cleanings and exams, which can save you money in the long run. If your employer doesn’t offer dental insurance, consider purchasing a plan independently.

In conclusion, good oral hygiene habits, a healthy diet, regular dental check-ups with a pediatric dentist, and dental insurance can all contribute to keeping your child’s teeth healthy.

By instilling good habits and seeking professional care, you can help prevent dental problems and ensure your child has a healthy smile for life.

What To Expect During A Gum Contouring Procedure

What To Expect During A Gum Contouring Procedure

chibueze uchegbu | March 16th, 2023

A beautiful, healthy smile is an asset that everyone desires. But for some people, achieving this dream may seem unattainable – at least not until now. Gum contouring has become popular for people who feel self-conscious about their smiles or uneven gum line.

According to a recent study, US citizens’ dental spending increased by 11%, from USD$146 billion in 2020 to USD$162 billion in 2021. It showed a spike in dental concerns from most people in the US.

Have you ever felt like your teeth were too small and your gum line disproportionate? Have you been searching for ways to improve your smile but need help figuring out where to start?

If so, then gum contouring might be perfect for you! This minimally invasive procedure can sculpt away excess tissue from your gums to give you an even and aesthetically pleasing gum line in no time.

Gum contouring can have dramatic results with just one visit to the dentist’s office. By understanding what lies ahead regarding this treatment option, patients can make informed decisions on whether or not they should pursue it.

Read on, as this article will break down everything there is to know about having a successful gum contouring procedure!

What to expect during the procedure

When you undergo gum contouring, the first step is to discuss your goals and expectations with your dentist. They will then examine your teeth and gums to assess if this procedure suits you. Afterward, they may use anesthesia to numb the area before treatment.

During the surgery, your dentist will use a laser or scalpel to reshape and remove excess tissue from your gums. Reshaping can help give them more even proportions and make them appear symmetrical around the teeth. The dentist will also clean away any plaque or tartar buildup on the surface of your teeth during this process.

Some dentists may apply stitches to help promote faster healing and reduce inflammation in the gums. Your dentist may also prescribe pain medication if necessary, so following their instructions carefully after leaving the office is crucial.

You must maintain good oral hygiene habits following treatment to ensure optimal results. Preparing for surgery is another vital factor for successful gum contouring outcomes.

How to prepare for your procedure

Before a gum contouring procedure, patients must do some preparatory activities as instructed by their dentist. It’s essential to ensure that the patient’s mouth and gums are healthy before treatment. The dentist will likely take X-rays of the teeth and gums before surgery to plan for the best outcome possible.

Patients should inform their doctor about medications or supplements that may interfere with healing, such as aspirin or blood thinners. Additionally, patients may be asked to stop smoking at least two weeks before the procedure and abstain from using tobacco products for several weeks afterward.

Lastly, patients must brush and floss daily, as poor oral hygiene can lead to infection or other complications following surgery. The patient should be informed of the steps to be taken before undergoing the gum contouring procedure.

By doing so, they can ensure everything goes smoothly on the day of the surgery and reduce potential risks associated with the operation.

In general, it’s best to determine why you want to have a gum contouring procedure in the first place.

What To Expect During A Gum Contouring Procedure

Benefits of gum contouring procedure

As previously mentioned, gum contouring is a minimally invasive procedure that can improve the appearance of your smile and boost your self-confidence. This procedure involves reshaping or removing excess gum tissue to enhance the look of your teeth by making them appear longer.

Here are some key benefits associated with this type of treatment:

  1. Improved aesthetics – Gum contouring can help create an even, symmetrical gum line for a more pleasing aesthetic outcome.
  2. Enhanced confidence – After this procedure, many patients feel greater confidence in their smiles due to improved overall facial symmetry and enhanced dental health.
  3. Reduced risk for periodontal disease – Removing excess gum tissue reduces the risk of developing periodontal diseases such as gingivitis and other forms of inflammation related to oral hygiene habits.

The results from this treatment are long-lasting when combined with proper post-surgery care and recovery instructions provided by your dentist or specialist.

Takeaway

Gum contouring is a procedure worth considering for those who want to improve their smile. It’s a practical and relatively painless way to achieve the desired results. Although there are some risks associated with this type of surgery, they can be easily managed under the care of your dentist or periodontist.

After considering all these factors, you should not fear undergoing the treatment – it’s a quick and easy process that will leave you feeling more confident overall.

Why is patient safety important

Why is patient safety important?

chibueze uchegbu | March 15th, 2023

When you go to the doctor or the hospital, you expect to be treated in order to improve your health. And most of the time, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals work tirelessly to care for patients and provide excellent care.

However, healthcare is complicated, and mistakes do occur. Patient safety is an important aspect of the healthcare process.

It is important to understand what patient safety is and some basic facts about it that this article has explored for you, keep reading to find out more.

Definition of Patient Safety

Patient safety in clinical care refers to clinical providers’ efforts to reduce or avoid preventable harm to patients during treatment, as well as the need for strategies to keep patient health risks as low as possible.

Patient safety initiatives aim to reduce physical, mental, or emotional harm while also protecting private patient information.

These initiatives may include protocols to prevent accidents, neglect, or misdiagnoses that could harm the patient inadvertently, as well as reporting issues that arise.

Issues with Failure to Prioritize Patient Safety

When hospitals and other healthcare organizations do not prioritize patient safety, it can create an environment in which patients are more vulnerable.

Patients may experience the following symptoms if more errors are made and not caught by another member of the healthcare team: Risky complications, slowed recovery, unneeded death, infections, and increased medical costs

Diagnostic errors, healthcare-acquired infections, falls, medication errors, and readmission are all common examples of patient safety issues.

Diagnosis error

Diagnostic mistakes include missed, incorrect, or unintentionally delayed diagnoses. Sometimes symptoms are unusual or masked, or the patient does not fully cooperate in care, making diagnosis difficult. Errors can also occur as a result of system issues such as equipment malfunction or a lack of communication.

Infections Acquired in Healthcare

A healthcare-acquired infection occurs when a person becomes ill while receiving treatment. The infection must occur after the treatment begins and can occur either in a medical facility or at home. Catheter-related bloodstream infections, hospital-acquired pneumonia, and surgical site infections are the most common types of healthcare-acquired infections.

Falls

Every year, falls cause a large number of injuries both in and out of healthcare settings. Patients may be at a higher risk of falling if they: have a poor memory, Are over the age of 60, have muscle weakness, use a cane or walker, and take multiple prescription medications.

Medication Errors

Medication errors happen when patients are given the incorrect medication. They also include receiving the correct medication but in the incorrect dose, at the incorrect time, or in the incorrect manner.

A medication error could be giving a patient a pill form of medication when a liquid form would be more appropriate.

Readmission

A readmission occurs when a patient returns to the hospital within 30 days of being discharged. A number of factors can lead to hospital readmission, including the following: Care of poor quality, premature discharge Discharge to unsuitable locations, and Inadequate recovery information or resources.

Why is patient safety important

Patient Safety Importance

Here are some basic importance of patient safety you need to know.

Providing Excellent Care

One of the primary advantages of patient safety efforts is that they result in higher clinical care standards. Misdiagnosis safeguards, for example, ensure that patients are treated for the correct underlying condition; they assist providers in ensuring that they are treating the root illness, not just a peripheral symptom or side effect.

These efforts, combined with improved hospital discharge procedures, have the potential to improve care for patients with chronic conditions while also lowering hospital readmission rates. A patient safety program can also help ensure that all of a patient’s physical and emotional needs are met, even if their treatment requires a lengthy stay in a healthcare facility.

Managing Risk

Patient safety programs aid in the reduction of avoidable infections or injuries.

Medical teams with strict facility sterilization and sanitization policies may see a reduction in patient infections, such as pneumonia or surgical site infections. Hand hygiene and patient screening procedures can also aid in infection control.

Patient safety protocols can be relied on by nurses and physical therapists to keep patients from injuring themselves during rehabilitation, whether through overexertion or by putting too much strain on an area that is still tender from surgery. Patients who are still weak may slip and fall even during brief walks around a hospital floor if proper assistance is not provided.

Medication management protocols implemented in medical facilities can help reduce drug errors, which can occur during the prescribing and dispensing stages and result in additional patient interventions or serious patient harm.

Safeguarding Private Patient Data

Patient safety also includes information security. A patient safety initiative’s primary goal is to ensure that all sensitive patient information related to their medical history or finances is kept secure. This protects the patient from embarrassment, frustration, or financial loss while also protecting the organization from potential regulatory issues.

Cost-cutting measures

Errors in patient safety cost medical organizations money. Providers may have to spend more money and time to treat injuries or infections that could have been avoided.

Meanwhile, significant lapses in patient safety, such as data breaches, may result in expensive patient lawsuits. Errors can also lower a facility’s quality ratings, resulting in lower patient volumes or lower reimbursement rates. Patient safety protocols can save money, reduce legal risk, and boost a hospital’s reputation.

Patient safety examples and fact

These are some common examples and facts about patient safety that you should be aware of in order to better prepare yourself to influence positive patient outcomes.

  • Adverse events caused by unsafe care are likely among the top ten leading causes of death and disability worldwide, killing over 2.5 million people each year.

  • One out of every ten hospital patients is harmed in some way. Approximately half of those incidents are avoidable.

  • Medication errors are the leading cause of patient harm in hospitals, costing an estimated $42 billion in US dollars.

  • Dealing with adverse events consumes about 15% of total health spending.

  • According to studies, investments in improving patient safety can result in significant cost savings: between 2010 and 2015, focused patient safety efforts in Medicare hospitals in the United States resulted in a $28 billion savings.

  • An infection affects approximately 10% of hospitalized patients; experts estimate that low-cost infection control measures can reduce infection rates by 55%.

  • Every year, more than one million patients die as a result of post-surgical complications worldwide.

  • Diagnostic errors are responsible for approximately 10% of patient deaths in the United States.

  • With over 3.5 billion X-rays performed globally each year, increased X-ray exposure remains a patient safety concern.

  • Millions of patients are harmed each year as a result of incorrect or delayed medical diagnosis, with roughly half of the cases resulting in severe harm.

Patient safety begins at the very top.

First and foremost, institutional patient safety begins at the top. This means that hospital leadership is fostering a culture of patient safety rather than dictating rules for employees to follow.

It is critical to recognize the distinction. We are generally forced to follow rules, and we do so reluctantly, taking every opportunity to break them. Culture is built on belief, which forms the basis of our self-image and governs our actions and behaviors.

Building or changing culture is not easy, but a good starting point is for your hospital’s leadership to truly embrace patient safety and provide positive reinforcement for behaviors that promote it.

Patient Safety goal

Setting goals is essential for any performance improvement. If you are unsure where to begin, I recommend reviewing the Joint Commission’s 2018 National Patient Safety Goals.

This initiative aims to improve patient safety by outlining goals centered on healthcare safety issues and how to solve them.

The objectives concentrate on various areas, treatments, and procedures that could all be improved in the name of patient safety.

They are presented in such a way that they not only explain why the Joint Commission chose them but also the elements of performance required to meet them. Meeting these objectives is critical for any hospital seeking Joint Commission accreditation.

Conclusion on Why is patient safety important

In layman’s terms, patient safety refers to how hospitals and other healthcare facilities protect their patients’ well-being by avoiding errors, injuries, or accidents, as well as making poor judgment calls that may cause harm or endanger lives.

According to the World Health Organization, patient safety is a fundamental discipline that encompasses all aspects of a comprehensive healthcare system.

We get worried and think Why do I smell bad even with good hygiene? Something we try everything we hear about, some healthy while others can be detrimental to our health, yet no solution.

Let’s start from the causes of the smell down to why you smell even after taking your bath and using those expensive perfumes and all.

Those bad smells are generally referred to as body odour or BO for short. Body odor is what your body emits when your sweat comes in contact with the bacteria on your skin.

Sweat itself doesn’t smell, but when the bacteria on your skin mix with your sweat, it causes an odor. Body odor can smell sweet, sour, tangy or like onions.

You hear people say he sweats a lot, that’s why he is smelling, but that’s not necessarily true. The amount you sweat doesn’t necessarily impact your body odor.

That’s why a person can have an unpleasant body odor but not be sweaty. So a person can sweat a lot and still not have a body odor.

So we can say body odor is a result of the type of bacteria on your skin and how that bacteria interacts with sweat, not the sweat itself. What causes the unpleasant smell is the bacteria that build up on your sweaty skin and react with sweat and oils to grow and multiply when sweat reacts with bacteria on the skin.

Sweat as a primary source of bad smell

There are two types of sweat glands in the body:

The Apocrine and Eccrine glands.

The Eccrine glands open directly onto your skin and can be found all over your body. When your body temperature rises, they release fluids that evaporate and help your body cool down.

While the Apocrine glands is found in areas where you have hair, such as your armpit and groin area. These glands release a milky fluid when you are stressed and are odorless until they come into contact with bacteria.

Hair is particularly prone to trapping bacteria, which is why men are more likely to smell even after showering. In other words,  lingering underarm odor is caused by enduring bacteria.

As sweating occurs in the areas, bacteria that like warm, moist areas, break down the sweat to produce body odor.

Why do I smell bad even with good hygiene?

Why do you smell bad?

There are many reasons why you’ll smell bad even with good hygiene and this could be as a result of hormonal changes, medication, food, illness such as Diabetes, Gout, Menopause, Overactive thyroid, Liver disease, Kidney disease, Infectious diseases.

Diabetes: High ketone levels cause your blood to become acidic and your body odor to be fruit. Internal health issues may result in unpleasant body odors (BO), as well, such as liver and kidney disease and hyperthyroidism, which can lead to excessive sweat and increased BO.

In the case of liver or kidney disease, your odor may give off a bleach-like smell due to toxin buildup in your body

Food: If you eat food rich in sulfur you may develop body odor. Sulfur smells like rotten eggs. When it’s secreted from your body in your sweat, it can put off an unpleasant smell.

Food rich in sulfur includes;

  1. Onions
  2. Garlic
  3. Cabbage
  4. Broccoli
  5. Cauliflower
  6. Red meat

Clothes: Most times you bath regularly and apply all the body perfume and deodorant and you still smell, you should consider the fabric of your dress, sometimes it’s still looking new but the fabric is dead and retains the smell.

Even after washing for hours immediately when you put the cloth on, it starts smelling so bad and makes you uncomfortable.

How to prevent this Body odor

Having done all you can do, bathing and all, let’s look at ways to prevent or curb this bad smell from running your day.

Food:

Check your diet, eat healthy, drink a lot of water so your body can clean from the inside. The saying what you eat is who you are becomes literal to you.

Find the meal that you react to or cause a strange smell around you and reduce it, if you can’t entirely stop it.

Keep tabs on your food and changes that come with them and if it works stick to the routine.

Clothes:

Wash your clothes regularly, dispose of dead fabrics( sometimes the garment still looks new and we have grown sentimental attachments to it) but if the fabric is dead, endeavor to dispose of it.

Anti-perspirant:

Before running to get a good spelling deodorant or body spray, endeavor to shave your pubic hair cos they can retain bacteria that will in turn smell.

Mixing deodorant with an existing body odor would only produce a stronger foul and offensive smell. So shave, then use your anti perspirant and also keep taking your bath

See your doctor:

If it is related to a health issue, you should see a doctor before taking any over-the-counter drug. Let your doctor look and assess you and tell you the way forward.

How do you know when to visit your doctor you will ask? If you have done everything hygienically possible and you still feel stinky, escalate it and see your doctor and get access. It would do you good.

Why do I smell bad even with good hygiene, a concluding remark

In addition to your bathing regularly, shave your pubic hairs because osm they retain smell and enable breeding for those bacteria, learn to discard your fabric, drink a lot of water to clean your body from the inside, watch your diet, and If need be, consult your doctor.
