1. Obtain a license from the FDA to manufacture, sell or import drugs domestically for sale in Thailand. The license must be renewed every year and is valid from  January 1st. until 31st Dec of every year. The licensee who obtains a manufacturing license or an import license is also entitled to sell its manufactured or imported medicines, but only wholesale (Article 15 of the Medicines Act).
2. After receiving the import license, obtain a permit to import drug samples.
3. Submit a complete regulatory submission, including samples, to the FDA for review and registration. The marketing authorization for each product must also be renewed.

• What are the Different Categories of Drugs for Distribution?

Under the Medicines Act, there are three main categories of medicines:

• Common home remedies, which are equivalent to over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. Products in this category can be sold without a prescription and do not require a pharmacist. are sold by parties other than retail pharmacies, distributors, and wholesalers as these products do not require a license to sell. For example, a supermarket or supermarket may sell common home remedies, such as acetaminophen 500 mg in packs of 4 or 10, simethicone, normal saline, aluminum hydroxide tablets, oral rehydration salts (ORS), etc licensed practitioners such as a doctor, dentist, nurse, veterinarian or pharmacist.
• Dangerous medicines can be sold without a prescription, but only a pharmacist should dispense them. Most medicines in Thailand fall into this category.
• Specially controlled medicines, which can have potentially harmful effects if misused, are only available by prescription. Also, some specially controlled drugs are only available in hospitals.
