Pharmacy Schools in Atlanta

Stephen Onwuaha | November 27th, 2022

Having information on pharmacy schools in Atlanta is very essential most especially if you have interest in studying pharmacy in Atlanta.

To explore the many and varied career paths that pharmacy offers, you should enroll in a pharmacy school in Atlanta, a large metropolitan city. Throughout the history of modern medicine, pharmacists have been charged with having a thorough understanding of the drugs and treatments that have improved the lives of millions of people.

The following guide highlights the lengthy process of becoming a licensed pharmacist while also providing the most up-to-date facts and figures on how the industry is expected to grow.

Pharmacy Salaries and job Growth

In 2016, the median salary for a pharmacist was more than $121,500, though those in advanced roles or with years of experience can expect to earn even more.

This also applies to pharmacists who work in different states.  While pharmacist positions are expected to grow by 3%, or 9,100 positions, between 2014 and 2024, these figures vary across the country.

Step to becoming a pharmacist

1. Complete Relevant Degree Programs

Pharmacists in training have two options for completing their educational requirements. The first option entails finishing undergraduate coursework before entering a graduate program, while the second is a combined option that combines all coursework into one program. This section discusses both.

Graduate + Undergraduate: Pre-pharmacy courses are available as two or four-year degrees, so students should already know which graduate program they want to pursue before enrolling in an undergraduate program.

Four-year degrees include more general education and liberal arts classes, whereas two-year programs focus on field-specific courses. Students must take courses in general and organic chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, molecular and cellular biology, microbiology, statistics, calculus, and English to meet prerequisites for advanced study.

Some programs may require these topics to be studied over several semesters. Students who complete the program apply for a four-year pharmacy doctoral program.

Graduate: Combined degrees are available in a variety of formats and allow students to complete all required coursework in a shorter amount of time. The most common programs last six to seven years and award both a bachelor’s and a doctor of pharmacy degree upon completion.

2. Pass Licensure Requirements

Pharmacist licensing requirements are mandated at the state level, so graduates should check with their local board to learn about specific requirements. While some states have requirements, others do not, the majority include the following elements:

Complete a doctoral program that has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

Pass the North American Pharmacist Licensing Exam, the Multi-State Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam, and the Written and Practical Exam as part of the pharmacist licensing examination series.

The NAPLEX consists of 185 questions and is designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge of pharmacotherapy and therapeutic outcomes, medication preparation and distribution, and patient health optimization.

The NAPLEX, like other computerized exams, is adaptive, which means that the test selects questions based on how the student performs on the exam. This exam costs $505 to take, so students should be well-prepared before scheduling a testing date.

If you fail the NAPLEX or any of the other required exams, you may be able to retake them. This usually entails paying an additional exam fee and obtaining written approval from a state or national pharmacy body. Some states, however, have a limit on the number of times you can retake a test.

The Multi-State Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam tests a student’s understanding of federal and state laws governing pharmaceutical practice.

This exam is used by participating states to ensure that all pharmacists understand the legal implications of prescribing and distributing drugs. This examination costs $250.

The written and practical examination components are typically state-specific. A local pharmacy board may be able to provide more information.

3. Complete Post-Doctoral Training

Pharmacists who want to work in a specialized field of pharmaceutics usually go through a one- to two-year residency program.

Post-doctoral training provides new pharmacists with the specialized knowledge they’ll need to enter these fields, whether they’re interested in psychopharmacology or pharmacoepidemiology. This is also an excellent option for those who intend to conduct research.

4. Stay on Top of Continuing Education

To keep their license, all states require pharmacists to complete continuing education hours as of 2016. Most require between 15 and 30 hours between license renewals, which are typically every two years. Pharmacists should review their state’s individual requirements before enrolling in any courses or training.

While some areas only require CEUs to be obtained from an approved provider, others require them to be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy. States may also require specific courses based on industry trends, such as pharmacological law or mental health and pharmaceutics.

Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

The Warren Alpert Medical School (formerly known as Brown Medical School, previously known as Brown University School of Medicine) is the medical school of Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Originally established in 1811, it was the third medical school to be founded in New England after only Harvard and Dartmouth. However, the original program was suspended in 1827, and the four-year medical program was re-established almost 150 years later in 1972, granting the first MD degrees in 1975.

Today, the Warren Alpert Medical School is a component of Brown’s Division of Biology and Medicine, which also includes the Program in Biology. Together with the Medical School’s seven affiliated teaching hospitals, the Division attracts over $300 million in external research funding per year. This is no doubt one of the best medical schools in Rhode Island.

Alpert Medical School earned ranked 14th for primary care education and 35th for research in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report rankings and was ranked among the top 25 medical schools in the nation by Business Insider in 2016. Graduates of the school are accepted into competitive residency programs and leading medical centers.

Brown Alpert Medical School is one of the seven Ivy League medical schools and is currently ranked 14th for primary care education and 35th for research by the 2023 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Alpert was ranked in the top 25 medical schools in the U.S. by both Business Insider and by a medical education rankings study conducted by Matthew J. Goldstein and colleagues at Harvard Medical School.

Alpert enrolls approximately 144 students per class, and in 2017 was named by US News among the 10 most selective medical schools in the United States based on acceptance rate. In 2016, Alpert received 6,374 completed applications and interviewed 370 applicants for 90 spots open through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).

Other routes of entry include the eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) and a small number of linkage programs.

Students interested in studying at Alpert Medical School may apply through a variety of admissions routes designed to enroll a diverse and highly qualified student body. Approximately 30% of the entering class is composed of students from the 8-year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) and special linkage agreement programs.

In 2004, the school began to accept premedical students from other colleges and universities via AMCAS through a standard route of admissions. According to the school’s website, for the Fall 2016 entry class, Alpert Medical School received 6,374 secondary applications and interviewed 370 candidates through the AMCAS route.

A restructuring of the pre-clinical curriculum was implemented in 2006, with the goal of achieving an integrated, contemporary, and flexible medical curriculum.

Its design was predicated on the vision that tomorrow’s physician must be an IT-savvy lifelong learner who is scientifically and clinically enlightened, familiar with alternative and complementary healing traditions, patient and service-centered, and who understands the economic underpinnings of the US healthcare system.

At the heart of the curriculum, redesign is the two-year basic science component (Integrated Medical Sciences I-IV), Doctoring (which focuses on clinical skills and professionalism), and the Scholarly Concentrations Program.

Integrated Medical Sciences I: IMS-I provides students with foundations of cell biology, cell physiology, biochemistry, nutrition, immunology, and genetics, all of which are integrated with gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy.

IMS-I also includes general pathology in which students are introduced to concepts underlying the mechanisms of disease. This foundation forms the basis for the subsequent systems-based blocks of IMS II through IV.

Brain Sciences, the first module of IMS II, integrates head and neck anatomy with neurobiology, behavior, pathophysiology, and neuropharmacology. Microbiology is integrated with infectious diseases and relevant pharmacology and epidemiology. In the final block of IMS-II, Endocrinology, endocrine physiology has been incorporated into the endocrine pathophysiology, pathology, and pharmacology content.

Integrated Medical Sciences III and IV: Students continue with a systems-based approach in Year II: The course sections are cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, hematology, gastroenterology, human reproduction, growth, and development, and supporting structures (dermatology, rheumatology, and orthopedics).

Doctoring is a required skills-based course for all first- and second-year medical students designed to teach the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a competent, ethical, and humane physician. Students spend one half-day a week working alongside a physician-mentor. These sessions allow students to observe and practice clinical skills such as medical interviewing, history-taking, physical diagnosis, and professional conduct.

Chiropractic Schools in South Carolina

Chiropractic Schools in South Carolina

Stephen Onwuaha | November 24th, 2022

Do you know Chiropractic schools in South Carolina? Read on to get all the needed information about the Chiropractic schools in South Carolina.

The chiropractic profession revolves around assisting others in improving their health. Chiropractors help patients achieve optimal health and function by using a natural, preventative approach to health care.

Chiropractic is a branch of medicine that focuses on assisting patients in reaching their full health and performance potential. Chiropractic doctors use gentle adjustments to the bones of the spine to remove interferences that can interfere with the body’s natural ability to heal.

Chiropractic is a non-invasive approach to health care that encourages the body’s natural ability to self-regulate and heal. This means that chiropractic care is appropriate for everyone, from newborns to the elderly. Everyone, regardless of health, can benefit from keeping their nervous system free of interference.

Factors to consider when choosing the best chiropractic school for you

Because everyone’s definition of a “top school” differs, conducting your own research can help you decide not only which chiropractic school is the best, but, perhaps more importantly, which one is the best for you. Here are some things to think about when evaluating each one:

School accreditation: Before you spend your hard-earned money on a chiropractic degree, make sure the school you attend is accredited, which means it is officially recognized within the profession.

The website of the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) includes a list of CCE accredited programs and institutions. Check it out before you make a decision.

Graduation Rate: According to the Open Education Database (OEDb), a school’s graduation rate “is an indicator of a college’s student’s success in attaining their educational goals.”

As a result, attending a college with a higher graduation rate means that more students are able to achieve their educational goals, increasing the likelihood that you will as well. According to OEDb statistics, some of the top schools have graduation rates of 80% or higher.

School location: Chiropractic classes differ from those offered in many other fields in that labs make up a large portion of the required coursework. Because students spend a significant amount of time on campus, school location is an important consideration.

The price of education: Cost is another factor to consider when researching chiropractic schools. It makes no sense to keep something on your list if it does not fit into your budget. This necessitates considering not only total expenses, but also financial aid opportunities available at that specific school.

Feedback from students: You can find pros and cons for almost any chiropractic school, but it’s sometimes helpful to hear from current and former students. One method is to speak with chiropractors in your area and inquire about the schools they attended. You can also search through online college review sites like Students Review and College Times, which provide this type of feedback.

How long does chiropractic school take?

It is important to remember that learning a new profession or trade often requires a significant time commitment. This is especially true if you want to work in chiropractic. According to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC), “accredited chiropractic programs last four years and lead to a chiropractic degree,” which is the degree required to provide chiropractic care to patients.

However, if you choose to obtain your Bachelor of Science (BS) degree before enrolling in a chiropractic program, that time can easily be extended to seven years or more.

The number of courses required to become proficient enough to provide chiropractic care is the reason schooling takes so long. There are so many courses, in fact, that one study discovered that chiropractic students spend more time in the classroom than medical students.

Conclusion

Chiropractic care is about assisting people of all ages and walks of life to enjoy better health. Chiropractic careers range from solo practitioner to sports or animal chiropractic. Although science courses are crucial, chiropractic is ultimately a hands-on profession.

Your chiropractor has received training in over 150 techniques, the majority of which rely on gentle manipulation. Your chiropractor may position you in various ways to gain access to various areas of your body.

However, for chiropractic adjustments, you will usually be lying face down on a specially padded chiropractic table. You may hear popping and cracking sounds as your chiropractor realigns your spine or joints with controlled force.

Medical schools in Minnesota

Stephen Onwuaha | November 21st, 2022

Information on medical schools in Minnesota is very important for all interested persons to have access to.

A medical school is a tertiary educational institution, or part of such an institution, that teaches medicine, and awards a professional degree for physicians.

Such medical degrees include the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, MBBCh, BMBS), Master of Medicine (MM, MMed), Doctor of Medicine (MD), or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

Many medical schools offer additional degrees, such as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), master’s degree (MSc) or other post-secondary education.

Minnesota is a state in the upper midwestern region of the United States. It is the 12th largest U.S. state in area and the 22nd most populous, with over 5.75 million residents. Minnesota is home to western prairies, now given over to intensive agriculture; deciduous forests in the southeast, now partially cleared, farmed, and settled; and the less populated North Woods, used for mining, forestry, and recreation.

Roughly a third of the state is covered in forests, and it is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for having over 14,000 bodies of fresh water of at least ten acres. More than 60% of Minnesotans live in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, known as the “Twin Cities”, the state’s main political, economic, and cultural hub.

With a population of about 3.7 million, the Twin Cities is the 16th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. Other minor metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas in the state include Duluth, Mankato, Moorhead, Rochester, and St. Cloud.

How To Find The Best Veterinary Schools In Idaho

Every prospective veterinarian wants to receive their career training from a widely respected program. But what does that look like when it comes to veterinary medicine? The following six elements can help you identify the best veterinary schools in Idaho for you.

1. A supportive environment

Even if you attend one of the most esteemed veterinarian school, it won’t matter much if you don’t make it through the program. It’s important to choose a veterinary school that truly values its students and their success by ensuring no one slips through the cracks and the best veterinary schools in Idaho are a great choice.

2. A significant amount of hands-on training

It’s not all that uncommon for DVM graduates to seek additional training after completing their initial studies. Some evidence suggests that graduates are opting to pursue postgrad training opportunities like internships because they don’t feel adequately prepared for full-time employment immediately after school.

You can avoid this issue by choosing from the best veterinary schools in Idaho that emphasize plenty of hands-on experience. That said, this isn’t always an easy thing to identify just by viewing a program’s website. Attending events like the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association’s National Symposium, an annual gathering that enables prospective students to speak with representatives from veterinary schools will help you.

Another good way to learn how much a school prioritizes hands-on clinical experience is by talking to program alumni or even current students.

3. A tradition of successful graduates

When a program boasts impressive graduate outcomes, that is another good signifier of the best veterinary schools in Idaho. Performance on the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) is one way to measure this. To learn how the schools on your list fare, look into what percentage of a program’s graduates pass this exam on their first try and then compare it to the average for all schools.

If you want more specifics, don’t be afraid to ask the admissions team what types of work graduates do, especially if you’re hoping to pursue a particular type of veterinary medicine. And once again, you can always speak with program graduates to learn how satisfied they are with their postgrad experiences.

4. Opportunities to pursue your specific interests

At this point, you may just be interested in pursuing veterinary medicine in general. But you could also set your sights on a more specialized path like equestrian veterinary medicine or working with marine animals. If you identify with the latter, you’ll want a DVM program that offers plenty of opportunities to take a deep dive into those areas of focus.

The best veterinary schools in Idaho provide specialized veterinary programs you can choose from.

5. Exceptional faculty members

Your education is only as good as your instructors. Experienced educators are simply going to do a better job of communicating the material you’ll need to learn to become a veterinarian.

Always visit the schools’ websites, because each school is required to list its faculty members.  When reviewing a program’s faculty profiles, consider things like published work and academic credentials.

6. State-of-the-art facilities

As with human medicine, veterinary medicine relies heavily on technology. You want to make sure you attend a school that maintains modern facilities and is quick to adopt new developments in veterinary equipment and training.

You can often learn a bit about a school’s campus and facilities on the program’s website. It can even be a good idea to visit school campuses if you’re able. By touring the best veterinary schools in Idaho, you’ll be able to tell right away if the facilities are up to your standards.

Conclusion

Those are the best veterinary schools in Idaho. To become a recognized and licensed vet technician in Idaho, you must graduate from an AVMA-accredited program in veterinary technology and also pass both the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and also the Idaho State Boards.
