The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is a state-run institution in the American state of Arkansas.  It is a member of the University of Arkansas System, houses the medical school known as UAMS College of Medicine.

Additionally, the main site is located in Little Rock and is connected to the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. It is also connected to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and UAMS Medical Center.

UAMS Northwest is a satellite campus located near Fayetteville. The other two medical schools in Arkansas are the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Smith and NYITCOM in Jonesboro.

However, eight doctors from Arkansas, led by Dr. P. O. Hooper of Little Rock, founded the University in October 1879. The doctors pooled their funds and paid $5,000 to purchase the former Sperindo Restaurant and Hotel in downtown Little Rock. This served as the initial location of the then-named Medical Department of Arkansas Industrial University (later renamed University of Arkansas).

Furthermore, before a new site was built next to the Little Rock City Hospital in 1935, the medical school was housed. It was housed in a number of places during the early 20th century.
