8. PJE Home Vet
PJE Home Vet was founded in 2014 by Paul Eagar BVetMed MRCVS. It is a Chelmsford mobile veterinary practice that provides you and your pet with comprehensive and affordable veterinary care in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Also, PJE Pet Farewell is a dedicated compassionate home euthanasia service for owners who are not PJE Home Vet clients. Paul had the idea for this company while working for both private and charitable veterinary services.
He recognized the need for home visits by some owners and pets, as well as the difficulties this presents in regular veterinary practice. PJE Home Vet was founded in 2014 as a result of this understanding.
Paul became a veterinarian in 1982 and has worked in Essex since 1985.
“In 1993, I met a girl named Mary,” he says. They didn’t have a future together unless he accepted her three cats, so on their first date, he gave them their booster shots. They married in 1995, so she must have been impressed. Do you want to take this woman and her three cats?
They have fostered cats for animal charities and taken in the unwanted and unloved since then, and their house has always been full of cats. They currently have four. He likes dogs (he grew up with them), but not their cats!!”

MARK METER grew up on a dairy farm in South Africa, where a gentle old cob named “Roman” inspired his love of all things equine. He put up with him trying to turn him into a racehorse and polo pony for a long time! After finishing boarding school, he enlisted in the army for two-year conscription.
Following completion of an officer’s course, he went on to assist in the training of game rangers in the prevention of poaching. After that, university beckoned, which entailed three years of a BSc in Agriculture followed by five and a half years of veterinary school (some would say a professional student!).
After a brief stint in South Africa, I relocated to the United Kingdom and worked in a large mixed practice in Bromsgrove (Worcs) for two years. He moved to Essex in 2000 and joined Blaircourt, where he has never left! His areas of expertise include poor performance, internal medicine, and complicated dentistry, among others.
At Blaircourt, they take an active approach to Continuing Professional Development, and to that end, Patrick and he attended a “Minimally Invasive Trans-buccal Extraction Technique” course in Denmark (basically, removing a horse’s tooth via a surgical incision in the cheek). This is a novel and delicate method of removing a tooth with far less trauma and complications than traditional extraction techniques.
In his spare time, he cycle, run, ski, and enjoy game fishing (he hung up his rugby boots a long time ago—too many injuries for an old body!). He also tries to keep up with two very active sons!
